![]() ![]() USB drive doesn't appear in any Fusion 11 UI or the Windows 7 VM. However, I uninstalled the driver, uninstalled VMWare Tools, rebooted, reinstalled VMWare Tools, reinstalled the driver - no change in behavior. Your USB drive has been mounted on the MAC OS hence can not be seen by the virtual machine. I have reinstalled VMware Tools several times and fiddled with the USB & Bluetooth settings. They are recognized by VMware Fusion, but do not show up in Windows. Im using Fusion Professional Version 12.2.3 (19436697). Following upgrade from VMware Fusion 6 to 8.1, the guest no longer recognizes external hard drives via USB. Will USB 3.0 support be restored in a point upgrade to Fusion 11? What's the official workaround?ĮDIT: I was wrong: the Intel USB driver is 3.0 / 3.1. VMware Fusion does not share external USB devices from host OS to guest OS (with solutions). ![]() This seems like a fairly serious regression. I've seen many posts about USB devices failing to connect while using Fusion 11, both here and other sites (reddit, superuser, etc.) īut in fact, the link goes to the 3.0 driver, and I can find no 3.1 driver. The USB 3.1 driver for this virtual machine can be downloaded from. When a USB device is connected to the Host MAC machine, the device will not show up in Virtual Machine > Settings > USB & Bluetooth After the upgrading Fusion or the macOS to High Sierra, user does not receive prompt to 'Connect to Mac' or 'Connect to Windows. Using USB devices with a USB 3.1 controller may require additional drivers to be installed in the virtual machine. USB device is not being detected by the virtual machine. Then I found that Settings -> USB & Bluetooth -> USB Compatibility doesn't give USB 3.0 as an option. Fusion 11 never gives me the opportunity to mount it in Windows 7 neither via the dialog when I connect the drive to the computer (Fusion is set to prompt me when connecting devices) nor other means. Whenever I connect the USB 3.0 external drive, it get mounted by MacOS. Could you please launch system information and look through your host USB devices to see if there are others who have not a serial number The crash log you. (The previous value was probably whatever Fusion 8 defaulted to.) And under VM/s Settings -> Compatibility -> Use Hardware Version changed it to 16. Settings -> USB & Bluetooth -> USB Compatibility was set to 3.0 in Fusion 8.Īfter upgrading, as far as I know the only changes I made are that - when prompted by Fusion to upgrade the VM itself - I did so. I had (and have) the USB 3.0 drivers installed in Windows 7, as per the link in Settings -> USB & Bluetooth. I heavily use a USB 3.0 external drive and it was working fine in Fusion 8. ![]() I have the ZIP file of information gathered with verbose USB messages enabled, if that would help.I recently upgraded from Fusion 8 to Fusion 11. I have NOT tried adding the following line to the VMX file: There is also NO message like this: "System software from developer VMWare, Inc. I note that in macOS System Preferences | Security & Privacy | General, I no longer see the option (that I remember seeing at some point in the past) to click on "Allow" to enable ' System software from developer "VMWare, Inc"'. Nothing I have done has changed anything about the result. I have followed the uninstall steps for VMWare 11.5.7 and reinstalled it and all the VMWare Tools. In Windows Device Manager, all these devices then appear with a warning "Unknown USB Device (Invalid Device Descriptor)" only in this VM and not on any other machines. After recovering from a corrupt VMWAREVM bundle by using the "Copy" option instead of "Move", I had to re-Activate Windows 10 and now USB drives that can currently be read by all other machines including Mac and Windows, get the message "USB device not recognized" when I plug it into the MacBook Pro running macOS 10.15.7 and choose to see it in the guest VM with Windows 10. ![]()
